In some families, children and teens experience serious problems in school, truancy and even interactions with the criminal justice system. Functional Family Therapy (FFT) is an evidence-based program for families of youth, aged 11 to 18 years old, who are dealing with complex problems like delinquency, mental health concerns, criminal involvement, substance abuse and violence.
The FFT counsellor works with the family to assess and develop strategies that address their issues. The program helps family members learn new skills and better connect with one another. Participants will learn how to improve and achieve:
- Family communication
- Trust and respect
- Negotiating more effectively
- Increased supportive parenting behaviors
- Clear rules about privileges and responsibilities
- Stronger family relationships
- Increase appropriate supervision
FFT is offered in partnership between Catholic Family Service and Carya (formally Calgary Family Services). Together, we are committed to providing seamless service, including a common intake process. Families can call one number to access a counsellor at either agency.
