Affordable Counselling

Affordable Counselling2019-11-13T16:28:51+00:00

There are times in everyone’s life when a little extra support is needed. Catholic Family Service (CFS) helps people deal with a full range of life events from coping with daily pressures – like job loss or relationship problems – to addressing mental health issues and breaking intergenerational cycles of abuse.

If you are feeling confused, overwhelmed or uncertain, we can help you. Our counselling services are for individuals, couples and families. We work from a variety of research and trauma informed approaches, and always hold ourselves accountable to you and to your feedback.

At CFS, we don’t manage people or prescribe solutions. We listen – with compassion. When people feel accepted, safe and understood, that’s when things start to change – for the better. We believe that everyone, regardless of financial capacity, should have access to professional, effective and efficient clinical treatment. Our Engagement Team ensures that anyone who reaches out to us will receive support either in person or over the phone – within one business day – guaranteed.

How do I find out if my benefits cover your services?2019-07-17T21:04:33+00:00
  • If you have employee benefits, it is likely that our services are covered under the provision for counselling or psychological services. Contact your benefit provider directly to find out what kind of coverage you have, and how they will reimburse you, since we do not direct-bill. Some useful questions you may want to ask are:
    • What kind of counselling services are covered by my health benefits?
    • How much coverage is there per year/per session?
    • Are there any restrictions I should know about?
  • You do not need to have employee benefits to access counselling at Catholic Family Service.

The booking page allows client to have one booked appointment at a time. After the scheduled appointment has been attended or the date/time has passed, the client may book another session. Change-focused conversations can have a big impact, and we encourage clients to allow time to apply what they took from their conversation before booking another single session appointment.

Why do you call it “Informed”?2019-07-24T18:28:43+00:00

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is an evidence-based curriculum that was first created in 1979 by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts. At CFS we have made a few adaptations to the curriculum: we do not provide a one day silent retreat, we have slightly shorter class times, and we have slightly lightened the home practice work load. Due to making these adaptations while adhering to the curriculum otherwise, we say the group is Informed by MBSR.

Can I join in through skype?2019-07-24T18:27:13+00:00
