To our friends and supporters,

I hope this message finds each of you safe and healthy. To say that these are challenging days is an understatement, and I know the current situation places a significant burden on many families, individuals, and businesses.

Thank you for continuing to partner with us in these uncertain times. Please know that your support and commitment to building strong families make every difference to our team and to the people we serve. I also want you to know that we at Catholic Family Service and the UP Foundation are here for you and your family.

Alberta Public Health professionals, healthcare workers and other frontline services are working hard to get a handle on the situation and mitigate the impact. We’re incredibly grateful for their work. We also know the measures helping to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus come at a high price, both socially and economically. Many of you may be experiencing new challenges or difficulties.

As you have generously supported us, please let us know how we can support you and your family.

We are fiercely committed to supporting Calgarians. When we closed our offices in mid-March, I was, and continue to be, so proud of our team’s courage and innovation as they transformed our services. In just over a day, our Rapid Access Counselling program moved entirely online. Our Never Too Late program missed only one class before virtual classrooms were supporting learners working toward their GED. Where programs couldn’t continue, our team is in regular contact with clients, offering connection and support. Here are some ways you might reach out:

I also want to say that at CFS, we believe in humanity above all else. If you ever worry that something precludes you from accessing support with us, it doesn’t. We are here for you, and if we don’t provide what you need, we’ll help connect you with an organization that does.

We continue to do everything we can to maintain a supportive presence to Calgarians. That said, we have not been untouched by the economic situation in Alberta. Even as more people are reaching out to us for support, we have seen cuts to funding and grants. We’ve also postponed the UP Gala, our largest fundraising event. If you can help, please consider a donation. You can contact Tara Horsley, Lead – Community Relations, at 403.205.8528 or tara.horsley@cfs-ab.org, or make a donation through our website, www.cfs-ab.org/give/donate/.

I can’t thank you enough for your support. Together, we are building strong families.

Patricia Jones,
CEO, Catholic Family Service and the UP Foundation
