“Who wouldn’t want a night without cooking during the hectic week? A night when my family would HAVE to sit together and talk? A night where my kids could play with other kids and my husband and I could have a treasured fifteen minutes alone? When Catholic Family Service was promoting Families and Schools Together (F&ST) at my children’s school, I was hooked. Little did I know that one night a week could change the trajectory of a lifetime! I fell in love with the program and began volunteering as a parent partner the next time it ran at the school. I fell in love with co-facilitating groups and watching families fall in love with each other. I wanted more, but didn’t know exactly what it was that I wanted or how to go about getting it. The opportunity arose to work with the F&ST program as a parent partner liaison. I applied faster than I’ve ever applied to anything in my life. I was successful! The two years I spent working at CFS were so rewarding. I grew professionally, but more importantly, I began a journey of immense personal growth. Through the encouragement of absolutely fantastic supervisors, I found my purpose. I’m now a successful graduate of the Social Work Diploma program at Mount Royal University. I am pursuing my Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, beginning this fall at the University of Calgary. I will then be pursuing my Master’s degree. CFS has been an integral part in changing my life and I couldn’t be more thankful!”
