“I was hired at Catholic Family Service in the summer of 1985. I planned to work there for five years in order to fully benefit from their matching RRSP program. I remained for 27 years!! Those years were spent at the Louise Dean Centre. I entered the doors with some trepidation as I was not very fond of teenage girls. In my eyes they were too emotional and full of drama. I left 27 years later with a total conversion. These young moms – with all their courage, determination, self-sacrifice and dedication to providing a good life for their children – became my heroes. At CFS I felt valued, appreciated and respected. New ideas and innovations were always welcomed and encouraged. I was supported in developing new groups, running new programs and working in different areas of the agency such as school counselling, outreach, community kitchen and Families & Schools Together to name a few. CFS was my professional family for 27 years and I am rich with wonderful heartwarming memories.”
