“When I signed up to volunteer at Catholic Family Service, I was just beginning my first year of the Bachelor of Education program at St. Mary’s University. I knew that I enjoyed working with children and I wanted to do as much volunteer work with them as possible during the school year. My assignment was to run the children’s activities and crafts during the Families and Schools Together (F&ST) program being offered at St. Rupert School that semester. As a future teacher, this volunteer role allowed me to create meaningful connections with the staff at schools partnering with CFS to deliver the F&ST program. It reminded me that I can impact children’s lives, not only in a classroom setting, but as a volunteer in the community. And it taught me the importance of surrounding myself and others with support. I learned that it is okay to need help and support as that can make all the difference in the end.”
