If you experience stress, anxiety, depression or chronic pain, Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) may help.
Developed at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in the 1970s by Professor Jon Kabat-Zinn, MBSR uses a combination of mindfulness meditation, body awareness and yoga to help people become more mindful. It is considered to have beneficial effects, including stress reduction, relaxation and improvements to quality of life.
This winter, Catholic Family Service is offering an eight-week course led by a mental health professional trained in MBSR techniques. The course is available on a “pay as you can” basis; no one will be turned away based on finances.
Depending on registration, the course will be offered at the following times:
- Mondays, 9:00 – 11:00 am, January 29 – March 19
- Tuesdays, 4:00 – 6:00 pm, January 30 – March 20
- Thursdays, 11:30 am – 1:30 pm, February 1 – March 22
Sessions will be held at Catholic Family Service’s downtown office at 250, 707 10 Avenue SW, Calgary.
