If you experience stress, anxiety, depression or chronic pain, Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction informed (MBSRi) group might help.
Developed at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in the 1970s by Professor Jon Kabat-Zinn, MBSRi uses a combination of mindfulness meditation, body awareness and yoga to help people become more mindful. It is considered to have beneficial effects, including stress reduction, relaxation and improvements to quality of life.
Catholic Family Service is once again offering this eight-week course led by a mental health professional trained in MBSRi techniques. The course is available on a “pay as you can” basis; no one will be turned away based on finances.
Depending on registration, the course will be offered on Wednesday 10:00 am – 12:00 pm, July 3 – August 21, 2019.
Sessions will be held at Catholic Family Service’s downtown office at 250, 707 10 Avenue SW, Calgary.
Clients who attended MBSRi group sessions earlier this year said the techniques they learned were helpful to them. Below are comments from past participants:
