Belong. Befriend. Become.
Becoming a parent really changes people’s priorities. Things that were important before the baby suddenly become less important. Having someone to talk to can make a big difference. Catholic Family Service’s Motherhood Matters program is a progressive mentorship program that connects young moms to build community – and confidence!
The Motherhood Matters program gives participants opportunities to:
- Meet other young moms who know what it’s like to walk in their shoes.
- Connect with kind, smart and caring women who can provide mentorship and guidance.
- Provide leadership and contribute to both family and the community.
Here’s how it works:
Step One: Belong
During this nine-week program, moms and mentors get together as a large group to have fun and talk about real-life issues. Relationships are developed and strengthened over meals, sharing stories and fun, child-friendly activities.
Step Two: Befriend
Moms get to choose a mentor for one-on-one support. Over a six to eight month period, young moms and their mentors meet regularly and talk about whatever is most important at that time. Our volunteer mentors are trained to be great listeners, non-judgmental and to not give advice.
Step Three: Become
A full-circle moment – moms who have been mentored have the opportunity to participate in leadership training to develop the skills required to run groups in Step One: Belong.
This program is available to expecting or new moms under the age of 24 and volunteer mentors who believe young parents can be great parents.
There is no requirement to complete all three steps – participants can choose how much they prefer to participate.
