Teen Parent Friend
Teen Parent Friend makes a difference by providing
mentoring and family activities which connect young parents to their
communities. Parents will then be more able to achieve their goals as
individuals, parents and community members.
For almost 30 years Catholic Family Service has been
serving young mothers of all faiths and cultures through the Teen Parent Friend
Program (TPFP). The Program reduces feelings of stress and isolation for
pregnant and parenting youth up to the age of 24 in two ways:
- Hosting a
monthly family group which provides opportunities for young families to
connect in an informal setting. Guest speakers, ice breakers, craft
activities and lots of fun are all part of our family group.
- Volunteers
act as community mentors to support young parents in strengthening their
parenting and independent living skills. In addition to providing
encouragement and a listening ear, mentors help parents access a variety
of community resources, such as financial and basic needs resources,
employment and education, and parenting, to name just a few.
