Parent Child Learning Centre
The Parent Child Learning Centre is an on-site licensed and accredited child care facility for high-risk mothers. The centre provides care to infants and toddlers from age six weeks to 35 months. The centre assesses child development and helps build healthy bonds between moms and their babies. Financing help is available.
The Centre’s early childhood specialists help young mothers by:
- Creating a mentoring relationship with the teen mom to help her understand and meet the developmental and emotional needs of her child.
- Providing an example that young moms can follow for parenting, as well as support and information to help young moms properly care for their children in a loving and nurturing way.
- Responding to moms in a way that meets their individual cultural needs.
- Working closely with on-site health professionals to support breast feeding and the proper feeding of infants and young children.
- Providing basic needs such as clothing, milk, diapers and toys.
- Monthly workshop presentations focusing on topics such as dressing for winter, baby massage and dealing with picky eaters to help prevent injuries and promote healthy babies.
