Healthy Babies Network

Many pregnant women in the Calgary community may not have access to prenatal health care, social support and proper nutrition during pregnancy. For these reasons, they may be at risk for having babies with low birth weight. The Healthy Babies Network was started by the Catholic Family Service and the Postpartum Community Services of Alberta Health Services to address these concerns and promote infant health.

The Healthy Babies Network gives clients access to a professional team with a program coordinator, a registered social worker and a registered dietitian. Together they get mom and baby on the road to living a healthy lifestyle by taking advantage of a network of community resources.

Our mandate is to provide services to pregnant and parenting women with children up to the age of 12 months who are at risk of having a low birth weight baby including immigrant women, Aboriginal women, adolescent women and women who have had a previous low birth weight baby. Catholic Family Service partners with other agencies to increase the capacity and effectiveness of other community programs.

The Healthy Babies Network focuses on:

  • Consulting with moms and assessing their health and their baby’s health and social support needs.
  • Working with moms individually or in groups to educate them on prenatal and postnatal resources and nutrition.
  • Providing support in the way of food and vitamins.
  • Referring moms to many other community resources that can help.
